How To Instantly Improve Your Writing And Watch Your Sales Skyrocket - Part 2 (The BAR Test)

In the last article I briefly touched on the BAR test, and I wanted to go into that a little more because I think that it's the single most important thing when it comes to improving your writing.

If you didn't get a chance to check the last article out, here is the link: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1bNwmkP7ip2n5VoQcO99AgzzP_ro3dMiNZlHDwJPFHug/edit?usp=sharing

Whether you're working on sales copy, marketing, or even if you're preparing for a sales call, the BAR test can make a huge difference in how you communicate.

Most articles you read can be so incredibly boring or sound like a bunch of words just thrown onto a page or even worse written by Chat GPT. Who by the way might be the worst writer of all time.

So if you want to be a better writer than 90% of people out there. Or even if you just want to get some more sales, the BAR test will do exactly that!

Why Overcomplicating It Won't Get You Sales

Imagine someone asked you what you did for a living, trying to make conversation.

And let's say you do copywriting.

Would you tell them, “ I optimize orchestration of high-conversions of linguistic frameworks and neuromarketing techniques, engineered to manipulate cognitive biases and maximize consumer acquisition within performance-driven ecosystems.”

I sure hope not, that's way too complicated. All you would get was an awkward smile and then they walk away

A good response would be something like, “I write words that get people to take action, like buying a product or signing up for something.”

See how that is much more clear and makes way more sense than the first one? So no matter what you do overcomplication ends up giving you the exact opposite result that you wanted.

“What Exactly Is The Bar Test”

The BAR Test is undefeated. It has worked in the past, it will work in the present and it will continue to work in the future. It's always relevant.

The test is simple,  just ask yourself, “Would I actually say this to a human being” if not rewrite it. Even better say it out loud if it sounds confusing or doesn't flow, it's time to make some changes.

That's it! Seriously, that's it. Asking yourself this question will solve 99% of your writing problems.

So next time you sit down to write something use the BAR test as the standard. If your writing is clear and understandable, you will immediately start noticing better responses to your article, blog or whatever it is your writing for.
